Her Odyssey: Beyond the Artists’ Kaleidoscope

One artist, one calligraphy, one magnitude of impact...

Among the luminous voices, Showfu- a Singapore-based calligraphy artist, had made a remarkable impact during the opening of the exhibition. As she created "愛" (love) with her expressive gestural performance in a calligraphy. She transforms the calligraphy into a live form of visual storytelling, where each stroke and ink has a gesture of personal declaration and deep memory. Her calligraphy, both delicate and bold, weaves together the exhibition’s central themes of cultural exploration, self-discovery, and the timeless pursuit of meaning.

Celebrating our women artists

In conjunction with Singapore Gallery Month this September, Art District SG is pleased to announce ‘Her Odyssey: Beyond the Artists’ Kaleidoscope’. A curatorial ode to the women artists’ creative, resilience, relentless effort and indelible impact on the evolving narrative of contemporary art. With dynamic, bold, colourful and playful expressions whisper stories and celebrate their distinctiveness in the art industry.

For centuries, women often faced historical and social barriers and were not given much recognition in the gallery space. But women in art play a crucial role in bringing revolutionary changes. They are resilient, creative and unique. Beyond stereotypes and rigid narration, they offer fresh perspective and lessons to be taught. Let’s explore and unravel the life paths marked by creativity and resilience of the esteemed artists!

Held in the heart of a bustling district of Orchard, the exhibition brings together an extraordinary collection of works from emerging and established women artists to celebrate cultural diversity in Singapore. Featuring local and international artists: Yang Yuan Yuan, Kim Hee Sun, Nana Tedja, Xie Ai Ge, Zhao Ai Hua, Lee Kyong Mi, Chai Chloe, Hanna Mi Kim, Fyon Cheng, Kaori Tanaka, ShowFu. The diverse cultural backgrounds and whirlpool of colours and imagination captured the unique experience and immense talent of each artist highlighting traditional and contemporary influences

Every brushstroke, colours and form represent a retrospective thread carefully weaving through the artwork. They serve as a powerful compass, guiding us through realms of memory, identity, and discovery, offering a new refreshing perspective prompting the viewer to pause, to ponder.

This work invites the audience to witness the act of creation as a journey itself in a singular moment in time. Her body softens with deliberate yet trance-like rhythm and flow which breathes life of written language onto the canvas. Each fluid stroke imbues a powerful force of emotion and identity that represent her experiences - infused with passion, and intuition. Turning calligraphy into an impermanent yet eternal art form that embodies her life and experience. ‘Her Odyssey: Beyond the Artist’s Kaleidoscope’ is a celebration of creative and powerful representation of all the talented women artists across the globe showcased who have transformed contemporary art!
