This portrait is painted in gratitude to Lee Kuan Yew, whose vision for public housing transformed the lives of generations of Singaporeans and shaped the foundation of modern Singapore. After encountering a documentary of Mr Lee from the 1960s, the artist was deeply moved by his determination and presence during the nation’s formative years. Inspired by this moment, the artist chose to portray him in his early leadership period as a tribute expressing heartfelt appreciation for the stability, opportunities, and sense of home made possible through his vision.
